Midge Tree. I reckon there are a few surplus species on this planet, including humans, they also can be pretty annoying, however i’m starting to think that midges fall into this category – maybe surplus species is the wrong way of looking at this, maybe a failing in our evolution to become less attractive to these almost invisible little biting insects. We have evolved with this incredible mind to develop and use tools yet the ability to avoid being terrorised by a bug the size of a pin head has escaped the evolution roadmap.. To escape these little biting pinheads there are two options as i see it, 1) encase your entire body in some form of protective clothing, which is not much fun in summer, thankfully, unlike mozzies these little f,ers do not bit thru a shirt. 2) go through a sheep dip of DEET insect repellent, simply spraying this stuff on is not adequate. There is a third option, immerse oneself in water, that works pretty well also. A side note, i now also have it on good authority that copious amounts of smoke do not discourage midges either. Does make for some interesting sunset sets tho.

The older I get…

The older I getΒ the less I know and the more questions I have. There is a airport over there on the other side of the bay. Pretty bizarre to watch aircraft appearing and disappearing in the smoke haze..

Slide – (C) 2019 Gerard Blacklock, all rights reservedSlide. I was always dubious about these slides, we get berated for making stuff in aircraft with sharp edges (2mm) – i would have thought the edges of a kids slide (and these are pretty long too) should be nice and rounded… That said, Little E skips the baby slide and goes straight for the real ones, looks like fun πŸ™‚

There is alot of pain in the world, but this week seems a bit worse, in the space of a couple days in Oz we have a had:

A crazy crash on the M5 motorway killing one child in a car with another one not far off – drove past that in the opposite direction and i wondered how anyone would walk away from that (3 cars and a truck).
One of two twins dying in their parents bed, the second fithing for their life still..
2 young children, toddler and baby perishing in a locked car (QLD) and another in a separate car…

Little Helper

Little Helper - (C) 2019 Gerard Blacklock, all rights reservedTesting the 20mm lens. Little E took 2 mins out of her time of demanding Maisy to help me with a few test shots.. i have found one fundamental flaw with this lens, at 20 mm you gotta be so close that you are well within the striking range of some very grubby sticky fingers.. Not a bad lens tho, pretty sharp it seems

Sinking - (C) 2019 Gerard Blacklock, all rights reservedLet this sink in. In my life time the number of fish in the ocean has halved and there is more plastic then fish. My life span is like a grain of sand on vast beach, what will the oceans look like when my kids are my age ? No fish out here, but there are top predator eagles, like this one hovering over some typical knoll in the finders ranges.
