Graveyard

Not a bad place to end up I supposes, a head stone beneath a tree…providing the timing is right!

I have a number of shots from this spot hidden behind a little chapel in Mount Wilson but I really struggled to present what I saw on the day in the image – I did bracket all my shots since the dynamic range was too much for the camera, however in the case of this image, after using a automated HDR technique I came back to just a single exposure shot…I just could not get that HDR image to look the way I wanted – very frustrating.

So, I ended up with this, its a two shot panorama (there was meant to be another frame to make it wider but things did not work out for that πŸ™ either ) using just a single neutral exposure. Its pretty amazing the level of detail/dynamic range you can get from the D750 and a single frame..

anyways, keen to hear your thoughts, love it, hate it, ambivalent? view large

Exif love:

  1. HDR is over rated (my opinion); they usually look over the top. This looks natural, like standing and looking at the scene with you. Great shot, thanks.

  2. I love the depth/dimension, intriguing color variation…the serene cascading light pouring into the shadows…What an enticingly beautiful Autumn shot! I wish I were strolling through this lovely graveyard.

  3. Very nice indeed, +Gerard Blacklock, the trees in the center of the shot seem cropped a little. Perhaps a little more height would add to the over-all impressiveness. Very nice rich tones and the mist in the background is very appealing. As usual, a very very well composed shot overall….

  4. I'm no expert, but the photo is absolutely beautiful! It looks real and very palpable. So many photos on G+ look so perfectly manufactured, that you lose touch with what the truthful reality of nature is like. You don't have to get all fancy schamcy with filters and other gadgets to get the money shot. Just my opinion. πŸ™‚

  5. +Gerard Blacklock, love the autumn colours, the starburst effect and the rays through the trees. That is some impressive dynamic range alright! I haven't really put my (relatively new) 5D mkIII through its paces in that department yet! πŸ™‚
