Twizel Reflections.

Twizel Reflections.

I think Twizel is a very much unrated little town in NZ, its no Queenstown or Lake Tekapo, but its got a genuine salt of the earth feel to it where it seems people are not pretentious. Could just be me and preferring to be in a place with less tourists (yes I know the irony of that since I am one). A shout out to the local kids who rock up in town for hot chips wearing shorts… i suppose it was a barmy 4 degrees… 😉

During our ( Rodney Campbell ) stay here we tried a bunch of food places and it was nice to have a great variety, from the local bakery to a more upmarket cafe (Mint Cafe – good coffee there) and the local street food stalls, of which the pizza one was so popular it sold out by the time we got there.

Its also a popular salmon fishing/farming place, hence I think i may have eaten my yearly share of salmon while I was there, burgers to breakfast and dinner…

These shots were taken on the second wind of the first sunrise we had there, we had hit the Lake Poaka for some reflections but could see some nice fog still sitting around the town, hence we made a dash back to the local town lake (Lake Ruataniwha) to smash some reflections, this was just the start of chasing the location which had the best and most still reflections…

If your looking for an unassuming camp ground and location, this is it, its no Queenstown or Lake Tekapo but still pretty cool and the ducks are friendly. Less tourists here too 🙂

Typically all 4 or 5 shot panoramas as the morning light progressed.

Hello Peaky.

Hello Peaky.
whatcha hiding under there? nasty avalanches, rockfalls, razor sharp ridges and guaranteed crevasses…

would be a damn great view from up there tho.

Mount Cook or more correctly Aoraki

Me and Rodninator (Rodney Campbell) have cracked the secret of getting clear skies. Just pretend your not gonna shoot the milkyway ’cause its so damn overcast and get ready to go to bed.. then as a joke before hopping into bed just say ‘ imagine if the sky was clear now’ 🙂

and Moses parted the clouds, religion is good for something, if only for decent buildings.

Rodney Campbell and I had two locations for this sunrise, the decision was made to decide on the way which one would be better given the conditions. We opted for this little duck pond rather than the bigger majestic Lake Pukaki, which would have been pretty good too, but limited in options, ie one shot wonder.

It ended up being a half decent sunrise.
