Adele Falls

One of three very quaint falls located at Lawson – these are excellent since they are not the most visited falls, like Leura Cascades or Wentworth falls, this equates to more time and room to move if your taking photos 😉

What I am really enjoying with waterfall shots is the fact that you often have to work pretty hard to find a really good composition or for that matter a original one, now throw in slippery rocks, rain, branches and a guaranteed challenge of not have a nice spot to plonk one's tripod and things get really interesting 🙂

At this time of day the Adele falls had the sunlight streaming off the top of the falls after 5 minutes of clambering around the falls i came across this position, after alittle branch housekeeping and with the falls dripping on me and my cap covering the camera I took this frame and also another selfie (but i'll save that for later 🙂 ), prolly too many 'and's in that sentence 😉

Swirls

The not so secret falls

There are a number of really sweet waterfalls in Sydney which really come to life with a bit of rain, I have had this little falls on my radar for some time, commonly titled the secret falls since there is no signage to or about the falls. FYI, its on Mcarrs Creek Road 🙂

This place has lots of really nice compositions and its pretty easy to get around the falls without falling on ya bum (although i did ..twice – i blame slippery sneakers 🙂 ) its also a 2 minute walk from teh road which means its quickly accessible, perfect for you waterfall fix really 🙂

Even with lots of sweet cloud cover its still a tricky scene to capture since the dynamic range is still quick large, for this image i stitched together 4 frames (bracketed, ie 12 shots altogether), i used PTGUI to generate my .psd file which contained 3 stitched layers, this was then brought into CS6 and the layers manually blended together followed by my usual processing.

out front -Hoya screw in circular polariser and neutral density filter (3 stops).
I don't need to say it but, view large, lifes better at full res (or close to)

Let the Fairies and Elves out

No elves, nor any fairies but there was leeches and I was kind enough to give one a ride all the way home, bloody hitchhiker.

Bridal Veil Falls, the land of endless compositions and water flows – whilst this is not actually the published 'Bridal Veil' falls I reckon this little subset of falls is just as worthy of the name. The real Bridal veil falls was also pretty damn spectacular but icovered in mist and i would have needed my 2mm f2.8 lens to have any hope of encompassing the entire scene 😉

Vortices

These are very cool, you can usually only see them in the right conditions (almost raining/high humidity) but always hear them as a aircraft passes overhead.

A quick and dirty gif of some nice vortices coming off the outboard edge of the flaps.

Solitude

A state of isolation or seclusion – well i would have felt like this at this location however I had enough mosquitoes to literally carry me away.

Pretty much cloudless except for a few fluffies wandering past but i still liked the pastel tones coming off the predawn sun.

On the Edge

Perched precariously on a small and loose overhang which was sheltered by another larger overhang that seemed to defy the natural forces of gravity, +Rodney Campbell and myself watched the clouds roll in and felt the thunder of the surf vibrating thru the rocks 10's of metres below.

The view is across the Curracurrong Falls which, today was nothing more than a pitiful trickle even after all the rain we have had in Sydney. Further south of this point is Garie Beach, another prime location for photography.

As is often the case, this morning's sunrise was non-existent, and after a few pretty epic weekday sunrise's – do the weather gods not know that photographers only go to sunrise on the weekend ?!

A short break from the rain and one of the final images from the morning.

Alien Balls come alive

Whilst the big cruise ships departed the harbour, something else arrived, encapsulated in the iron balls and equipped with a mesmerizing red eye dripping with electricity a silent pair of feet emerged….

So, there i was, 1am in the morning after finally getting tickles to sleep and enjoying a bit of quality TV and whilst tidying up the unlimited number of drawings and art and craft items which had found themselves into the cracks of the lounge when I thought – 'its been too many years since i have partaked in a little art and craft' 😉

Thus, the luminous footsteps were born, i don't think Chaos will miss those bits from her craft box!

Alien Balls

D7000 with the 17-55mm f2.8 @ 17mm cooking the sensor for well over 90seconds, no wonder i got all these hot pixels 😉

A little walk around the very interesting suburb of Pyrmont revealed someone had dropped some rather large balls in the park. Isuspect they are meant to be art, but they just look like a bunch of old pressure boilers or something from some old boat.
I do now have a neat idea for these to compliment a lightpainting scene – just need a and i'm good to go 🙂
