I was searching for a monochrome image that I had in my head this morning, this was as close to it as i could get – what I really wanted was a super minimalist BW seascape, oh well will have to go out again, dang 😉

3 shot Panorama image – Northern end of Maroubra Beach

Beachside apartment living 🙂 on occasions when the cloud is in the right spot on the horizon you can get some very nice, often very subtle, pink rays as the sun pokes it's way through, this was one such occasion.

Maroubra, whilst having a somewhat rough reputation is still one of the few eastern suburb where you can park for free 🙂

I missed the good flow here, there was some nice waves coming in but my patience was low and sure enough the moment i walked away the perfect wave turned up. Next time.

Mind Bender

View large, its crime to only look at thumbnails 🙂

Glebe Foreshore, there are some really nice foreshore parks and public spaces around Rozelle Bay, this particular one is a favourite for dog walks and kids parties – what a great mix 🙂

There is also a old school slippery dip, one with rollers, its like going down a conveyor belt, how someone has not yet sued the council i do not know ! 🙂

Unexpected

Even in the most built up areas, where there are rock walls and concrete barriers, it's still amazing to see a bit of greenery just strike a blow for freedom from the oppression of the city.

Layering

It has not rained in Sydney for some weeks, on the only weekend where I had some free time to pursue some imagery and it decides to rain, on both days of the weekend, however, with rain comes clouds and when you are on the edge of the storm clouds you can get some funky stuff happening with the clouds.

Looking south down Kurnell towards the infamous De-salination plant, offset powered by the Capital Hill wind farm

Approaching from the left

Its amazing to see the surf at work, slowly but surely moving the sand around and dislodging the rocks.

This particular rock is to the right of what is commonly known as the "elevator" on the southern end of Maroubra Beach, the " elevator" is a guaranteed fast moving rip which all the locals use as a speedy entry into the surf.

Disproportional Light

Timing and water movement can make the difference between a ok shot and a shot that is dynamic and has depth and form.

Seascape imagery involves quite a bit of waiting to get the right sized wave in the right position – this image was the first of several using the seaweed as a nice little prop, however I was not ready or setup for it, i merely plonked the tripod down knowing full well a nicely positioned wave was coming and did not have time to adjust the graduated filter or anything else for that matter. hence the overly dark headland and water, but on a positive note, i got the horizon bang on 🙂

Disillusioned Light and the green veins

Kurnell, its gotta be one of the most under rated locales in Sydney, I personally love it – the line of cliff walls have so many unique features all along the 15 odd kilometer stretch. This one is the easiest point to get to, the rest, involves lots of walking.

Someone need to give the place some scale 🙂 even so, one cannot tell that the boulders on the right are the size of buses from the picture – conveying a sense of scale with a wide angle lens is quite difficult.

Colour Contrast, Vertical goodness

The quaint colour contrast of the rocks caught my eye here, from electric green to the rustic red, I guess its little surprise given the rocks are washed daily from Botany Bay accumlating all kinds of bacteria and organisms , bot natural and man made 😉

One can never have too many images of city with the worst traffic, well i am sure I am being a bit over dramatic, however.

The day some politician actually builds a second airport in Sydney will be a day of celebration….

or they could just let the floating helipad go ahead 🙂
