Disproportional Light

Timing and water movement can make the difference between a ok shot and a shot that is dynamic and has depth and form.

Seascape imagery involves quite a bit of waiting to get the right sized wave in the right position – this image was the first of several using the seaweed as a nice little prop, however I was not ready or setup for it, i merely plonked the tripod down knowing full well a nicely positioned wave was coming and did not have time to adjust the graduated filter or anything else for that matter. hence the overly dark headland and water, but on a positive note, i got the horizon bang on 🙂

Disillusioned Light and the green veins

Kurnell, its gotta be one of the most under rated locales in Sydney, I personally love it – the line of cliff walls have so many unique features all along the 15 odd kilometer stretch. This one is the easiest point to get to, the rest, involves lots of walking.

Someone need to give the place some scale 🙂 even so, one cannot tell that the boulders on the right are the size of buses from the picture – conveying a sense of scale with a wide angle lens is quite difficult.

Colour Contrast, Vertical goodness

The quaint colour contrast of the rocks caught my eye here, from electric green to the rustic red, I guess its little surprise given the rocks are washed daily from Botany Bay accumlating all kinds of bacteria and organisms , bot natural and man made 😉

One can never have too many images of city with the worst traffic, well i am sure I am being a bit over dramatic, however.

The day some politician actually builds a second airport in Sydney will be a day of celebration….

or they could just let the floating helipad go ahead 🙂

The tree, the shed, the silo and strange clouds

No shortage of grass in this paddock and i suspect, no shortage of tasty snakes either.

Technically, a tricky image to capture, the sun had already passed over the clouds and hence the dynamic range of the scene is quite large, the image is captured by bracketing a number of shots and finally assembling them into a panorama format.

The weather in Sydney has been amazing today , beautifully warm and perfect for the pool and picnics. The sky is still very hazy with local burnoffs and there was some nice colour in the sky tonight, although I did miss the best of it..

Welcome to the little pothole

Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House long exposure, like any landscape shot (and I use that loosely since this image could almost be a cityscape too) often getting the right dynamic range can be a challenge, even with newer, more sensitive sensors often you still need to employ additional techniques to achieve the desired dynamic range, especially when trying to replicate what your eyes saw on the day.

The bigstopper adds another level of complexity to it, these tend to add quite a bit of vignetting, (for my lens anyway) so one must also combat this issue also.
