The tranquility of Siloam
The pool of Siloam – the Blue mountains one, not the pool where you get your blindness cured, don’t mix the two up, you’ll probably get pink eye if you stick your eye in here, especially with all that rain and runoff.
See the little trickle of water on the left behind the raging waterfall.. thats how it normally looks π

Its a bit wet out there. On a positive note, places which are normally a trickle turn into nice cascades.

Mount Solitary – Western Side.
Having done the eastern side awhile back I figured this side is actually a bit easier, that is the case, however with the road closure at Narrow Neck it means you gotta walk down the Furber steps at Katoomba falls which actually makes for a fairly long walk, 26km return for me.
It is a really nice walk with the majority along fairly flat shady forested bits, the descent down is a bit brutal but the actual ascent at Mount Solitary is worse, having walked 8 kms or so and then having to scramble up 300m elevation certainly had my cardio quota done for the day.
I picked a campsite at the very peak, or at the very least the highest point which is 974 metres, there is not really a peak, more of a mellow plateau. Its a really nice spot to camp, plenty of shade but also some nice view between the trees, alot different to the campsite at Chinamans Gulley which is a bit further on.
I tried out a new little stove and cook pot set by Soto (Windmaster) which is pretty cool, very compact and very light, also reasonably priced for Japanese engineering π it actually did quite well in a stiff breeze too. Highly recommend it..

Hyperfocal
Missed it by that much – only barely noticeable but the city line is just a touch out of focus, the key here would have been to focus on a point in the ocean and make sure the whole scene was sharper, rather than on the rock pier.
and no I did not come here to shoot the reflection, i came to this little pier ’cause no one else was there π then all the people turned up and wanted to shoot from here π

Sunset. This place never gets old… just gets more buildings.
Mount Solitary Camp.
It was a pretty nice sunset, I could not find a clear spot between the trees to get a sunset shot and my legs saying ‘hell no’ to walking any further, especially anything that involved steps. Hence, the obligatory tent shot with some sunset included was gonna have to do.
This is on the western side of Mount Solitary, basically the very tip, the left side is off towards Wentworth falls and to the right down into the valleys and eventually the headwaters of Warragamba Dam. Its pretty cool camp spot.
Trying out the new Durston X-Dome tent which did pretty good, kept me dry in the storm and kept the bugs out π
Its a 8 frame panorama with each shot bracketed, the light dynamic range is pretty large here with the campsite in fairly deep shadow and the bright sunset outside the circle of trees.

Sydney Fireworks NYE 2026
My inspiration comes and goesΓ’ΒΒ¦ mostly comes when I inhale
onto the pictures I suppose.
Several from both the 9pm and 12 midnight Fireworks – taken from over in Vaucluse with the other 15 billion people who drove over there – as PSA never trust google to find you a route anywhere on NYE, it literally had people driving in circles π
