Wings over Illawarra aka Shellharbour

Went and watched a few planes at the airshow at Albion Park. I gotta say it was not too bad, I know there was a bunch of contention about not having any fast jets (inservice RAAF ones) but to be honest this does not bother me too much, i see enough planes anyway πŸ™‚ The weather was ok but the lighting was a bit crap for looking at the sky, but you gotta take what you can get.

I pretty much plonked myself down away from the main crowd and stayed there for the whole day, having a comfy seat makes a big difference but did mean i was less motivated to look at anything else or get a different vantage point – one day I will pony up and get a VIP pass so i can sit in the stands right in front the display πŸ™‚

Its pretty cool to see lots of young kids out enjoying it too, all seemingly to know each and every aircraft type , the kid next to me with his pop sat there for the whole show applauding each one and having a blast, i don’t reckon most kids would have that attention span to stay on a screen that long πŸ™‚

I think wall of flames is certainly becoming a fav and a bit of signature for these airshows (Paul Bennet), they must have done 2 or 3 of these over the day, it does look pretty cool.

I did try and really capture the movement of the prop aircraft this time, this meant slowing the shutter right down and panning to get that motion, gotta say my arms got a bit tired after all that panning, most of these shots are taken between 1/50s and 1/200s and typically at a focal length of 500-600mm, which without the optical stabilisation you would not have a chance of getting anything remotely sharp.

Some cool aircraft there, I did like the BO-105 helicopter and the Hudson.
