I did want to take a selfie next to that pole of death out there (bit of pole work and all)…. but i did not want to get my toes wet 🙂 next time.

Heavy cloud on the horizon muted most of the sunrise and most of the Focus crew packed up early and headed for the cafe.

Fishing

Fishermen have featured pretty heavily in my images recently, I guess its just about them being in the right place at the right time 🙂

In this instance it was a lone fisherman on the edge of the rocks, whilst it may look somewhat dangerous, the place where he is standing is quite sheltered and at this tide level does not get too hectic 🙂 I really wanted to convey that sense of small-ness against the sunrise and sea, probably the real point is that I could not be arsed changing to a longer focal length lens 🙂 I did also want to get down lower to get him more silhouetted against the sky, however time did not permit it.

Fishing the Little Bay

Whilst it was a beautiful morning, these fishermen only had meagre luck, a few smallish barely legal size bream, after a short discussion, we were agreed it did not matter on a such a beautiful morning

Similar to a previous shot (https://plus.google.com/100975265940134223422/posts/MG2VGyeN62n), however of a panoramic view, I prefer my vertical composition, mainly since its was quicker to process than this 5 shot one 🙂

The Shelly Culprit

A variation on the recent subject tree, in this case I really wanted to portray what I had just spent the last 15 minutes walking over, a mix shells delicately placed in the mud by the recently receding tide.

Golf anyone?

Just as the storm rolled over, well not quite a storm but certainly enough rain to make it uncomfortable – I noticed a dinky little glow on the horizon and madly setup a shot with my back to rain to try and get something without covering the camera in rain.

Oddly enough 2 minutes later the sun poked its head thru the clouds for a brief moment, standby by for that shot 🙂

I only had to clone out about 15 million water droplet marks on my filter when processing this one 🙂

Fisherman vs Storm

Cheers to the fisherman out today, provide a much needed anchor point for my image. This was a moody overcast morning with the good chaps and ladies from the Focus Photography Group.

Learn the Lesson

A number of lessons I learnt (or re-learnt) on this day 😉 1) A camera lens continue to fog up for a good 15 or 20 minutes if it has been stored in a airconditioned room at 18 degrees then brought out in the QLD winter weather that is 27degrees (yeah thats winter lol) – and that was with only 50% humidity! doh.
2) just because its mud does not mean the oyster shells don't hurt any less when you walk on them in bare feet 😉 3) Damn mozzies in QLD are freakin insane..wear insect repellant fullstop.

I love this tree, its so photogenic, i would walk over oyster shells with no shoes to even photograph it, oh wait… i did that 😉

This time it was low tide and I had 40 minutes or so to burn so I took the opportunity to get out on the mud flat and get up close to my favorite tree – rest assured, I will be back for more when the opportunity arises 🙂

I think this is a great example of image that you can take without any special equipment, this was with no filters, no polariser, no bracketed shots – it was simply the right time of day with the right light and right place.

No Carts

This was a quick grab shot between a locations, I could not resist that little gravel path and perfectly placed podium aka golf tee-off. The possibilities are endless here, however must be done before the early golfers turn up 😉

The couple of golf courses over this way really do command a pretty serious section of coast and make for scenic golf games, well when the weather is fair anyway. I can only imagine with a stiff sea breeze things could get interesting 🙂

Un-natural Channel

Little bay outflow
Something about this little channel did not quite look right, too straight and too uniform, I suspect it was part of the old outflow for the local area – nevertheless, never one to pass up a bit of seascape action particularly when a channel is involved 🙂

Dragons Footsteps

Predawn blue bliss
I never ceases to amaze me the planet that we live on and how stuff just happens and sometimes so beautifully (well beautiful in a human perspective sense). Whilst its all just atmospherics and physics it is still amazing (for this lowly human) to watch the predawn colours develop from the night blue to light up the sky like a painter covering a fresh dark canvas – or in the words of my daughter, like the easter bunny has just painted the sky.

Sunrise is by far the best time of day.

Some very sensible fishermen out on this particular morning, all decked out with life jackets and proper footwear. It was also a magnificent morning to be out, fresh, cool and plenty of colour.

Colour or BW

Thoughts? I like the colour, however I feel the BW version simplifies the image and concentrates more on the composition and tree roots which for me was the main anchor poitn of the image. Note, the composition is not that terribly good in my opinion 😉 The intention was to try and utilise the roots to lead up thru the image to the waterfall.

A continuation of the Midday Seascapes – Coalcliff

Following on from a midday long exposure (see here: https://plus.google.com/100975265940134223422/posts/cM1zHFriUgD)

I thought a seascape with only a second or so of shutter was appropriate, to achieve this I stancked the LEE graduated filters (0.9 and 0.6) with the 0.6 pulled over the entirety of the lens, thus providing some extra stoppages. This with the circular polariser was enough to get me to 1 second.

Towra Nature Reserve – home of the Little Tern bird
This point has been reamed by humans, from attempted grazing, corn crops, to a radar station to oyster farming and finally recognized as a significant wetlands of the Sydney Basin with a little island now home to a thriving population of Little Terns 🙂 and the occasional pelican.

The Darkes Swirl

The dynamic range here was pretty large , just that section in the top part of the frame needed some extra help hence the multiple exposures, below that point it was pretty much a single exposure. I really wanted to capture a small amount of that dappled light filtering thru the rocks and trees to illuminate and provide a glow at the top of the frame.

The swirl in the foreground did not really want to play ball, it took several attempts to try and capture a circular motion however, nature wanted more dogbone shapes etc… :-/
