Swirl

I did plan to hit this place for a completely different reason, there is a cool channel near here which during the December month lines up with the sunrise. I did get it last year, but was not overly happy with the result… its amazing that a whole year has gone past since then, damn it went fast! anyways, so I thought I would go back, however rather than capture it with a bunch of clouds and very little sunrise, I really want to get a nice sunrise with some cool colour, hence, it will have to wait.. probably until this time next year lol.

On the upside, whilst it was rainy and cloudy the tide was fairly low (and coming in) which meant this nearby rockshelf had quite nice conditions with the waves spilling over the shelf. The scale is a bit deceptive, its actually quite larger than it looks, if you look carefully you can see a crazy fisherman stick out there on the left where they hang onto whilst catching breakfast 😉

This particular image is a 3 shot panorama, 3 landscape orientation images at 21mm, it took a bit of time to get the same wave action in each frame such that when it stitched it did not end up with funny join lines. Its not perfect but still somewhat acceptable.

Pinlight of hope

its a bit like that small amount of hope in the back of your head when sitting in the dentists chair that it 'aint gonna hurt… but it then gets squashed…;) damn I hate going to the dentist 😉

The sun made a brief appearance on this particular morning before succumbing to the thick blanket of clouds.

Sydney Coastline

A slight variation from a recent one which had a very long exposure, this was taken at 14mm (samyang) rather than 16mm (nikkor 16-35) I gotta say that if the samyang could easily (that being the operative word) take filters, like a ND/GND and polariser it would certainly completely replace the 16-35mm, its heaps sharper, and in my opinion has better colour and contrast than the nikkor.. it would be perfect for waterfalls and those really up close and personal seascape shots.

Well in the meantime, using it during the right conditions where no filter is required will have to suffice 😉

Exif / shot love:

Waiting for dawn

watching

As Sydney comes out the other end of some wicked weather, it seems only appropriate to post this image.

Here it is, the dawn of the end of the wild weather. I hope ya'all made it through OK – my thoughts go out to the families of those who lost their lives in the floods/storms.

Filterless

and tripodless

I do get a lot of questions from people regarding the processing and filters on many images (not only mine), I do understand why since when I standing in the same spot as them and they fire off a few on their smartphone and then the comment comes as why their images are so different, ie you must Photoshop them 😉 or have filters

So here's a recent image , no filters, yes it is processed (albeit minimally and not in photoshop lol), however every image out of a camera has some form of processing – I only found out the other day my smartphone had beauty face turned on.. i was wondering why i had the glamour glow look whenever I took a smartphone selfie 😉

So, its a 3 shot panorama, handheld, no filters (ie they funny things out front) and processed in Capture NX2

Fishing

Fishermen have featured pretty heavily in my images recently, I guess its just about them being in the right place at the right time 🙂

In this instance it was a lone fisherman on the edge of the rocks, whilst it may look somewhat dangerous, the place where he is standing is quite sheltered and at this tide level does not get too hectic 🙂 I really wanted to convey that sense of small-ness against the sunrise and sea, probably the real point is that I could not be arsed changing to a longer focal length lens 🙂 I did also want to get down lower to get him more silhouetted against the sky, however time did not permit it.

Fishing the Little Bay

Whilst it was a beautiful morning, these fishermen only had meagre luck, a few smallish barely legal size bream, after a short discussion, we were agreed it did not matter on a such a beautiful morning

Similar to a previous shot (https://plus.google.com/100975265940134223422/posts/MG2VGyeN62n), however of a panoramic view, I prefer my vertical composition, mainly since its was quicker to process than this 5 shot one 🙂

Techie data:
5 shot bracketed panorama (5 sets of 3 images, manually blended together)
D7000 with Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 @ 16mm- Aperture: f/16 and Shutter Speed: 01/3s, 1/10s & 1.5s
out front – LEE Graduated filter (0.9)

Golf anyone?

Just as the storm rolled over, well not quite a storm but certainly enough rain to make it uncomfortable – I noticed a dinky little glow on the horizon and madly setup a shot with my back to rain to try and get something without covering the camera in rain.

Oddly enough 2 minutes later the sun poked its head thru the clouds for a brief moment, standby by for that shot 🙂

I only had to clone out about 15 million water droplet marks on my filter when processing this one 🙂

Fisherman vs Storm

Cheers to the fisherman out today, provide a much needed anchor point for my image. This was a moody overcast morning with the good chaps and ladies from the Focus Photography Group.
