So, what happens when the lights go out? AW139 NVG compatible cockpit, now this a serious helicopter – a real step up (well that could be debated) from things like the BK117 or B412
So, what happens when the lights go out? AW139 NVG compatible cockpit, now this a serious helicopter – a real step up (well that could be debated) from things like the BK117 or B412. Check out the Standby Attitude indicator (thats the little blue display in the centre next to the moving map display), even that thing is digital! I take a small amount of comfort know everything requires electrical power! Take me back to the days of gyros powered by suction generated by a venturi π

Glebe Tram Sheds – history is about to change, Harold park raceway has fell dormant for some months and the slow arrival of construction demountables and other equipment is slowly appearing. The old access haunts are still available however increased security surveillance means the opportunities to capture the last few images of a place which has seen more paint work then the harbour bridge is getting scarce.

Cockatoo Island and Lost Tools of Henry Hoke Exhibition
A great Exhibition!
The story of Australian genius thwarted. Where would we be with the conveniences of modern life such as the Waterproof Tap, the Population Tool or Dehydrated Pills – havenβt you ever wondered where they came from? These unique and intriguing inventions, along many others, were created by the now forgotten Henry Hoke, the innovative genius behind these strokes of genius. What became apparent, after exhaustive research by the Institute of Backyard Studies, was that Henry Hoke was a man whose intellect ranged far and wide over the broadest field of human endeavour imaginable and even, at times, beyond. His working experiences apparently included a remarkable stint in the Cockatoo Island Dockyards. Set against the backdrop of remnant island machinery, this satirical exhibition will amuse and delight.
The Wilderbeast of Avalon
I have a crapload of images from this day, however its can be hard to place yourself and your images in a different world when there are so many togs there with so much better gear and so much better positions! Hence I did try and be a bit more creative and look for something more then the crusty wilderbeasts that we now call our modern airforce ![]()
Cradle Mountain Tasmania
Cradle Mountain is located in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, yes it would appear they were not terribly imaginative when naming this one π
The biggest drawcard for the Cradle Mountain end of the park is the diversity of walks, not necessarily the variation in length and difficulty factor, which most parks in Tassie seem to have anyway (which is awesome for attracting a large range of tourists) but the diversity in the environment in such a relatively small space. Take for example the Ronny’s Creek to Summit walk, you walk through button grass fields and small creeks followed by a section of rainforest and cascading waterfalls, this breaks out to the crater lake and its associated vegetation, more ground hugging and wind swept (that included us:) ). The walk from crater lake to Marions lookout and agin completely different, racky outcrops and small bushes, continuing on to Kitchen hut is bare rock and mossy ground. The finally ascent is a boulder filled funpark with patchs of brush, snow and rock moss stuff (very technical term).
If there was only one place you could go in Tassie and on a time limit, Cradle mountain would be it. It has walks for all types of people, including disabled people (light years ahead of the plebs in NSW). Whether it be a 20 minute stroll through the ENchanted forest of a boulder hopping trip up to the summit, there is a walk catered to you and the weather!
The Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park shares a “Twin Parks” agreement with the World Heritage listed Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve in the People’s Republic of China.

Australia Telescope Compact Array
Recent trip to lovely Narrabri awesome place with a awesome funny set of antennae on tracks….don’t look to compact to me π
“The Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), at the Narrabri Observatory, is an array of six 22-m antennas used for radio astronomy. It is located about 25 km west of the town of Narrabri in rural NSW (about 500 km north-west of Sydney). It is operated by the Australia Telescope National Facility, a division of CSIRO”
