Colour or BW

Thoughts? I like the colour, however I feel the BW version simplifies the image and concentrates more on the composition and tree roots which for me was the main anchor poitn of the image. Note, the composition is not that terribly good in my opinion 😉 The intention was to try and utilise the roots to lead up thru the image to the waterfall.

Texture – smooth vs bumpy

Just like where there is a light side, there is a dark and cold side – where there is smoothness, roughness is nearby.

There was difficulty tracking down a interesting foreground to match the sky here, however, one must always make do with what is there – watch for the next one with a dinky little oyster, high and dry 🙂

A continuation of the Midday Seascapes – Coalcliff

Following on from a midday long exposure (see here: https://plus.google.com/100975265940134223422/posts/cM1zHFriUgD)

I thought a seascape with only a second or so of shutter was appropriate, to achieve this I stancked the LEE graduated filters (0.9 and 0.6) with the 0.6 pulled over the entirety of the lens, thus providing some extra stoppages. This with the circular polariser was enough to get me to 1 second.

Building the Barangaroo Planetoid

Count the cranes
So, they reckon the buildings have apparently doubled in size since the original design proposal – well, the proof will be in the pudding I suppose, not long now before this skyline is changed forever. Get in while you can for your non-developed Barangaroo Pano or planetoid 😉

7 Frame landscape orientation panorama. Each frame was bracketed -2, 0 & +2 stops.
Pano stitched as 3 layers, blended automatically, flipped, polar coordinates applied then resized back to a square format.

Towra Nature Reserve – home of the Little Tern bird
This point has been reamed by humans, from attempted grazing, corn crops, to a radar station to oyster farming and finally recognized as a significant wetlands of the Sydney Basin with a little island now home to a thriving population of Little Terns 🙂 and the occasional pelican.

The Darkes Swirl

The dynamic range here was pretty large , just that section in the top part of the frame needed some extra help hence the multiple exposures, below that point it was pretty much a single exposure. I really wanted to capture a small amount of that dappled light filtering thru the rocks and trees to illuminate and provide a glow at the top of the frame.

The swirl in the foreground did not really want to play ball, it took several attempts to try and capture a circular motion however, nature wanted more dogbone shapes etc… :-/

Jervis Bay Vs Botany Bay

Artist license is something every tog uses, whether it simply be the way a image is framed or the way it is processed, images can and do lie 🙂 – this one is no exception, this spot on the East side of Botany bay is probably the only spot I have seen that is not strewn with washed up bottles, rubbish and general crap, just the other morning I was standing in a spot several kilometers to the south of here and all around me on the shoreline was all manner of rubbish – and that was in the Nature Reserve section of the Bay 🙂 So, this is not really a true representation of the true nature of Botany Bay.

However, I have chosen to try and portray this particular composition as something one would see at Jervis bay, a place which I wish I could visit more often 🙂 For those not familiar with Jervis Bay, it does apparently have some of the white-ist sand in Aussie land and whilst a bit full of old naval junk it is pretty clean 😉

So here you have it, Botany Bay, from Kurnell, the city lights and new shipping terminal just in sight on the horizon.

Darkes Forest Waterfall

The multiple falls over the various rock levels made for a perfect panorama composition, the sun was in full force but limited to lighting up the upper falls.

This is but a small portion of the falls, there is basically a whole extra layer above this, each with its unique and very lush set of ferns.
