Glebe Island Bridge + Pyrmont Walk

The ANZAC Bridge opened in 1995 and was formerly the Glebe Island Bridge. It is:

  • The longest cable-stayed bridge in Australia, with a main deck length of 805 metres, including a 345 metre span between the towers. The two 128 metre towers support 128 cables.
  • Amongst the longest concrete cable-stayed bridges in the world.
  • A landmark visible from many of the city’s inner suburbs.
  • Eight lanes wide.

The bridge provides a key link from the Sydney CBD to the inner west and western suburbs. It connects to the City West Link road, which links Victoria Road, near Anzac Bridge, to Parramatta Road at Five Dock. The City West link includes:

  • Extensive improvements completed at the intersection of Victoria Road and the Crescent.
  • A new four-lane arterial from the Crescent to Balmain Road, completed in 1999.
  • A link to Parramatta Road at Five Dock via Dobroyd Parade, completed in 2000.

Flashing the Beaver (DHC-2)

hah, get your mind outta the gutter

This beautiful dehavilland beaver has been lovely restored and in very short time will be getting back in the air. The position of this subject was not too bad, the only gripe being the wreck in the background and a seneca off to the left. This particular aircraft in its current paint job, pure white, lends itself to BW conversion which I had in mind for this session, hopefully this can also convey some of the original feeling of this aircraft. On a side note this is definitely one of my favorite aircraft, they just do not make them like this any more, a bit like the old school nikon lens, built like tanks and can take some abuse..

I struggled a bit with the lighting here, being such a large object i had to get my dancing shoes on to get around the scene to get it lit up, one thing that really improves these type of images (cars etc) is lighting up the interior, gettign a strobe in the inside would be awesome, i did try this but i ran out of time in my 30 sec exposure and could only ever get a couple of flashes thru the window in an attempt to light up cockpit.

run the HDD Tools

-> MHDD32

-> use the Uncut tool, also known as NPHA? refer to help F1

Similar to this but a lot easier!

First Problem: Can’t convert Dynamic Drive back to Basic
– Installed Samsung HD103UJ terabyte drive
– Windows (XP SP3) wanted to make it a Dynamic Drive and I said OK.
– Bad move! Poor performance, like treacle when copying files
– I tried to repartition but discovered Dynamic doesn’t support them 🙁
– I tried to convert back to Basic using Windows tools and also EASEUS Partition Manager but without success

Solution
1. Use gParted Live CD to wipe, repartition and reformat as NTFS
2. Problem solved. I chose two 480GB partitions as XP seems faster that way
3. Tell everyone “whenever Windows wants a Dynamic drive, SAY NO”

Second Problem: HD103UJ partition disappears, drive only 32MB
It had been working well, connected to an old Sil3114 SATA controller. I filled it with my stuff and retired the old drive as a backup. But next day for unknown reason, after reboot the new partitions vanished. Fortunately it wasn’t the system drive so I could still boot.

I tried messing with BIOS settings, reflashed Sil3114 and motherboard BIOS, reinstalled Sil3114 driver etc, all to no avail.

Solution
1. Download Samsung’s ES Tool. I burned the ISO image [1.86MB] onto CD.

2. Boot and run. ES Tool detected my Sil3114 card and HD103UJ no problem.

3. Under VIEW INFORMATION menu option the problem became evident:
Current Size 31 MB (LBA: 65134)
Native Size 953869 MB (LBA: 1953525168)

4. Under “SET MAX ADDRESS” menu option choose “Recover Native Size”.
NB. Don’t use “LBA MODE | Process” because that option needs to wipe your data.

5. Reboot. Drive reappears in all its 931.51GB of glory. Data is restored! 🙂

Mounting LV from USB Drives

Basically the crux of it is as follows. Remember it’s gotta be activated before mounting!

find it!

#fdisk -l /dev/sdb
Scan the drive with pvscan

#pvscan

Scan the drive with lvscan

#lvscan

activate it

#lvchange -a y /dev/volume

mount it

# mount -t ext3 /dev/volume/LogVol00 /mnt/somewhere

deativate when finished

#lvchange -a n /dev/volume

Mental note – don’t use LV, they suck and its more hard work…

Lady Carrington Drive Push-Bike Ride

If you have not done it yet…its about time you did, having no bike is no excuse, bikes, admittingly alittle rough, can be hired close by at the Boat Shed on Farnell Ave, this is the easist of the rides and you can do as much as you like, even the whole 18km there and back! It is pretty flat – probably best described as ‘undulating’ and does not take too much effort.

Take the time to stop and look at the various sityes and also check out teh river/creek, this time of year after the rain (and all the crap is washed away) it is amazingly clear and tranquil!
