The Opaque World

Its like a mesmerizing blurry mirror that you can't tear your eyes away from, each second the shape, colour and contrast change as the light refracts through the ebbing water.

The light was fading very fast and the colour disappearing just as quick, i could see the campfire ablaze in the distance and a clinking of beer bottles was calling. Rather than wait the 2 minutes at f/16 for the bright exposure i took 3 frames at different apertures all at 30 seconds as a means to expedite my parched throat to the waiting beer. Said goodbye to the shy crabs and took another single frame before trekking back to the pinpoint of light that was our campsite.

Similarly to the last image, I processed it in Nik HDR efex pro2 using pretty much the same custom preset, now dubbed 'gerry's dark one' then finished off in my usual process.

Natural Frame

After spending quite sometime wandering around the lower part of the falls looking for a darn tree to frame the lower falls, this tree just jumped out and said frame me 🙂 Pure gnarliness – its like nature just knew what to do to make a nice image.

Once again, nature, 3.5 stars for you!

Green Balls

A small rugged section of coastline in the Royal National Park just 40 minutes south of Sydney. The RNP (Royal National Park) has an almost unlimited number of great locations from clifftops to rockshelfs to scrub and of course waterfalls.

This particular spot, Garie Beach is a very popular with keen Surfers and Bushwalkers – it is on the route for the Coastwalk which travels pretty much the full length of the park.

This sweet green mossy rocks jumped out at me and was perfectly timed as some nice cloud swept across to add some interest to the sky.

Note, Garie beach surf club and facilities are great, for something that has no connected power, water or sewerage its got damn good facilities, nicely done.

Reach for the Sun

A very cute patch of greenery placed appropriately for sunrise as the sunlight rays developed for a fraction of a minute before transforming the day into sun drenched sunday.

Well it is that time of year again, sculptures by the sea, a great time to view the scenery at Glamamara.

View large, you know its a crime not to!

As usual and its becoming a dirty habit, +Suren J and +Rodney Campbell and myself get together and smash some light all in the name of trying to create something different than the run of the mill sculpture shots.

Its a wild world out there in sculptures by the sea, there must be a million bucks in photography gear alone on each given day as enthusiasts flock to grab a shot.

anyway, the ball full of water was on my list of ones to do – given the security guard was not gonna let us anywhere near the actually ball (grr) meant that i was not gonna get to do my bum cheeks against the ball, or my GP-5 mask or any EL wire….party poopers..

anyway so the following had to suffice. a pair of 15 dollar lasers (less than 1mw – so don't get excited or ) and coloured torch was all that was needed.

+Rodney Campbell on the red colour and myself and +Suren J on the lasers, however i think suren was more interested in lighting up the nudie couple in the house across the bay.

The way to salvation 😉

No HDR (multiple image blending), simply a GND filter and timing of the sun peeking over the horizon of cloud.

This is a good scenario for the use of your new Hitech reverse GND filter +Rodney Campbell and one where the 100*125 would be close to not covering the entire scene I think, hence the 100*150 is by far the right choice.

Nature vs The city

3 shot Panorama image – Northern end of Maroubra Beach

Beachside apartment living 🙂 on occasions when the cloud is in the right spot on the horizon you can get some very nice, often very subtle, pink rays as the sun pokes it's way through, this was one such occasion.

Maroubra, whilst having a somewhat rough reputation is still one of the few eastern suburb where you can park for free 🙂

Unexpected

Even in the most built up areas, where there are rock walls and concrete barriers, it's still amazing to see a bit of greenery just strike a blow for freedom from the oppression of the city.
