Unknown Falls – the waterfall into the ocean.

On this particular day I was standing on the edge of some impressive rocks with the nearest civilization over 15 kilometres away, my thoughts cleared with the ocean wind that came close to blowing me over, nothing left between the ears after that 😉

Another amazing location which is situated a short drive from Sydney and provides countless locations for the aspiring nature photographer and outdoor types, i shall return, shortly 🙂

I appreciate the comments that people leave and I welcome any suggestions, comments and improvements to my photography, they are always warmly welcomed!

The Neptune Necklace Slide

Subtle, saturated colours, great water flow and wet feet, all make for a fun sunrise session.

Manually blended a couple of shots to achieve that extra bit of light on the rocks and also compensate for the bright sky.

D7000 with 11-16mm f2.8 lens @ Aperture f/19
Shutter Speed: 6s
Circular Polariser and Lee 0.9 Graduated ND filter.

The Lonely Happy Fisherman

I think one often assumes that because someone is by oneself that they must be lonely – i guess in this instance i initially used the word lonely merely to describe the fact he was the only one on the beach (excluding me).
There is something refreshing and soul rejuvenating about being by oneself, to enjoy the thoughts, the sounds of the location and the isolation – for me, its a great way to recharge the batteries, ready for another week of chaos, people and life in general.

Taken with the venerable 105mm f2.5 nikkor, a lens that cost me less than 200 bucks and seems to please me more that a 1000 dollar lens 🙂

Golden Opera Invasion

Pre-sunrise bliss – view large

I think i have fulfilled my 2014 quota for Opera house shots 😉
Taken several minutes before sunrise just before the sprinkling rain set in.

The bright lights are dudes setting up for the Invasion Day Celebrations 26th January – Congratulations to all those who became Aussie citizens on this day, welcome to one of the best countries in the world!

Cockburn Ranges

(careful how you say that 🙂 )

This one is going back many years and is for +Red Nomad thanks for reminding me of our trip over in WA on the Gibb River Road back in 2006.

This particular scene was one of my favorites, coming down the hill into Home Station (from memory) just on sunset set and we could not resist the view of the ranges bathed in orange from the sun on our backs.

Taken with a point and shoot (Sony DSC-V3, which coincidentally only stopped working the other day) back in the day of simple happy snaps 🙂

btw, i did this whole trip with a broken foot and a space boot, you should see the pictures of me walking into the bungle bungles 🙂

Sky Nodules

It was like the sky from Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne – the scene was encased in this envelope of cloud that reminded me of the sound proofing foam you get with the nodules looking like they would drip away in any second.

D7000 and Tokina 11-16mm (11mm) @ f16 ans 3 seconds with Lee Graduated filter (with sea spray included for free) and circular polariser.

The warm tones on the clouds were very subtle, it was a warm glow rather than a red burn and thus have tried to preserve the subtley and texture in the processing. A single frame taken to accentuate the water flow and capture one of the many sweet looking rocks at low tide whilst on the backdop of a nodular (ohh yeah.. bet ya never used that word before:) ) sky

Opera on fire

I think this is a much cleaner and dare i say it, more natural rendition of the Opera house when compared to the last shot from around in the little bay. This one was taken from just near the foot of the Sydney Harbour Bridge just as the horizon lit up like a aussie bushfire.

The other sight, just off camera was much more amusing – once the colour developed, all the photographers, of which there was quite a number, rushed madly to adjusting grad filters, modify compositions and nail the moments of glory. There have been some great images come out of this session from them also!

Offcentre

There is simply only one reason I took this shot, it was raining and I needed somewhere to shelter and conveniently this little 'ol iron structure provided quite the respite. Rather than sit and wait and look like a terrorist for the nearby security guard, i thought i better take a photo 🙂

It was foggy, wet and sprinkling which really suited the BW option.

The rain then stopped and i went on my merry way..back to my favourite subject..the opera house, check the next post for that one…;)
