its not what you cant see that you should be afraid of, but what you can see
Ignorance is bliss.

and no jokes about my legs either 😉

So I am sitting here with two keyboards, two mice and Tickles, who is taking immense enjoyment in bashing out on one keyboard and mouse, it all goes well until she realises she wants my mouse and keyboard, which are much more interesting (probably ’cause they get a funny reaction from dad), especially the mouse with its cool little red light 🙂
Editing images is always fun with either tickles or chaos, it takes 10 times longer than normal and I lose a few hairs through frustration but its still worth it 😉

So, this image, intended to be BW from the get go, is dedicated to tickles! Pretty typical semi-LE seascape image which could have actually worked in colour also, there was some nice subtle warm glow on the top of the clouds but I felt that water flow and texture in the rocks did not need any colour to really make it shine.

Double Take

Some very cool infrastructure going up at Botany Bay and the new Port Terminal – just be sure to not take photos of it 😉 Apparently, thanks to Bin Laden, I am not allowed to point my camera in this direction 🙂 I guess I do attract a bit more attention (tripod and camera ) than the mobile phone wielding would be terrorists – oh well rules are rules I suppose, hence I turned around and took photos of planes taking off instead 😉

Anyway, enough of a whinge, these huge gantrys make awesome subjects, not quite the cloud movement I wanted but it was better than nothing.

The Tempe Jetty

Sydney Park, NSW

or whats left of it 🙂 Well thats my name for it, there is probably some other official symbolic name representing something or rather but stuffed if I know what it is 🙂 There is a sign saying its a swan breeding ground though.. ?! I was hoping for a swan up on one of the poles, but i think i might be asking alittle too much of the poor things 🙂

Queenslake

A peaceful lakeside community with great fishing and natural and relatively untouched surrounds. This particular afternoon had quite some nice colour in the sky and the clouds provided some excellent layering to show some deep blues and also some warm tones as the sun disappeared over my right should, so why opt for a BW conversion? I guess simplicity..the fact that converting to monochrome accentuates the actual composition and rather than relying on bold colours it can in my mind make for a image with a more lasting impression rather than a image with a fleeting glance.

I also enjoy BW images since for me it means more concentration on the tones and composition than the visual impact of colours, don't get me wrong I love colourful and bold imagery, i guess its just nice to simplify with BW at times 🙂

Also i need more BW practice 🙂

I welcome any suggestions, comments and improvements to my photography, they are always warmly welcomed

This image was created using a blend of 3 images to achieve the dynamic range and tonal detail in the trees. I used +Nik Photography's to do the initial processing and BW conversion followed by it being finished off in . There was a little struggle with the clouds, but not surprising since there was some substantial movement between the frames 🙂

Alien Balls

D7000 with the 17-55mm f2.8 @ 17mm cooking the sensor for well over 90seconds, no wonder i got all these hot pixels 😉

A little walk around the very interesting suburb of Pyrmont revealed someone had dropped some rather large balls in the park. Isuspect they are meant to be art, but they just look like a bunch of old pressure boilers or something from some old boat.
I do now have a neat idea for these to compliment a lightpainting scene – just need a and i'm good to go 🙂

Scale

Unknown Falls – the waterfall into the ocean.

On this particular day I was standing on the edge of some impressive rocks with the nearest civilization over 15 kilometres away, my thoughts cleared with the ocean wind that came close to blowing me over, nothing left between the ears after that 😉

Another amazing location which is situated a short drive from Sydney and provides countless locations for the aspiring nature photographer and outdoor types, i shall return, shortly 🙂

I appreciate the comments that people leave and I welcome any suggestions, comments and improvements to my photography, they are always warmly welcomed!

The Lonely Happy Fisherman

I think one often assumes that because someone is by oneself that they must be lonely – i guess in this instance i initially used the word lonely merely to describe the fact he was the only one on the beach (excluding me).
There is something refreshing and soul rejuvenating about being by oneself, to enjoy the thoughts, the sounds of the location and the isolation – for me, its a great way to recharge the batteries, ready for another week of chaos, people and life in general.

Taken with the venerable 105mm f2.5 nikkor, a lens that cost me less than 200 bucks and seems to please me more that a 1000 dollar lens 🙂

Offcentre

There is simply only one reason I took this shot, it was raining and I needed somewhere to shelter and conveniently this little 'ol iron structure provided quite the respite. Rather than sit and wait and look like a terrorist for the nearby security guard, i thought i better take a photo 🙂

It was foggy, wet and sprinkling which really suited the BW option.

The rain then stopped and i went on my merry way..back to my favourite subject..the opera house, check the next post for that one…;)

Park Life

Never did i ever envisage visiting so many parks or for that matter really worrying about how many and how good they are until Chaos turned up. Now i am a regular park goer and even partake in a little of the climbing jungle gyms myself 🙂 Now i really appreciate a half decent park.
