Inside the Upper Gledhill Falls

(sorry for the re-upload – i had a crappy low resolution version before)

A very beautiful rocky over hang at these falls, perfect for escaping the light rain. I am sure I was not the only one under this overhang 😉 it would be a great place for bats and all other manner of local wildlife to gain respite.

5 landscape orientation images (bracketed) stitched together and manually blended – just to preserve some of that natural dynamic range, probably could have achieved pretty much the same result with a single exposure.

Techie data:
D7000 with Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 @ 16mm Aperture: f/8
out front – Hoya screw in circular polariser and neutral density filter (3 stops)

and bonus points if you can find our pushbikes 🙂

From a recent stormy session at the RNP, this image was taken between some minor shows and ducking in and out of cover on a precarious little ledge.

8 odd portrait orientation images stitched together.

Junction Falls

A real gem of a falls, reminded me of the falls down in Valley of the Waters, jet black rock with whispers of water drifting over the edge to finally tumble gently on golden paths

lots of landscape shots stitched together to provide a panoramic view of this falls, 5 images from memory.

Techie data:

Adele Falls

One of three very quaint falls located at Lawson – these are excellent since they are not the most visited falls, like Leura Cascades or Wentworth falls, this equates to more time and room to move if your taking photos 😉

What I am really enjoying with waterfall shots is the fact that you often have to work pretty hard to find a really good composition or for that matter a original one, now throw in slippery rocks, rain, branches and a guaranteed challenge of not have a nice spot to plonk one's tripod and things get really interesting 🙂

At this time of day the Adele falls had the sunlight streaming off the top of the falls after 5 minutes of clambering around the falls i came across this position, after alittle branch housekeeping and with the falls dripping on me and my cap covering the camera I took this frame and also another selfie (but i'll save that for later 🙂 ), prolly too many 'and's in that sentence 😉

Techie data:
D7000 with Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 @ 11mm- Aperture: f/13 and Shutter Speed: 30s
out front -Hoya screw in circular polariser and neutral density filter (3 stops).

Swirls

The not so secret falls

There are a number of really sweet waterfalls in Sydney which really come to life with a bit of rain, I have had this little falls on my radar for some time, commonly titled the secret falls since there is no signage to or about the falls. FYI, its on Mcarrs Creek Road 🙂

This place has lots of really nice compositions and its pretty easy to get around the falls without falling on ya bum (although i did ..twice – i blame slippery sneakers 🙂 ) its also a 2 minute walk from teh road which means its quickly accessible, perfect for you waterfall fix really 🙂

Even with lots of sweet cloud cover its still a tricky scene to capture since the dynamic range is still quick large, for this image i stitched together 4 frames (bracketed, ie 12 shots altogether), i used PTGUI to generate my .psd file which contained 3 stitched layers, this was then brought into CS6 and the layers manually blended together followed by my usual processing.

Techie data:
D7000 with Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 @ 13mm- Aperture: f/13 and Shutter Speed: 1.5s, 6s and 20s
out front -Hoya screw in circular polariser and neutral density filter (3 stops).
I don't need to say it but, view large, lifes better at full res (or close to)

Let the Fairies and Elves out

No elves, nor any fairies but there was leeches and I was kind enough to give one a ride all the way home, bloody hitchhiker.

Bridal Veil Falls, the land of endless compositions and water flows – whilst this is not actually the published 'Bridal Veil' falls I reckon this little subset of falls is just as worthy of the name. The real Bridal veil falls was also pretty damn spectacular but icovered in mist and i would have needed my 2mm f2.8 lens to have any hope of encompassing the entire scene 😉

Solitude

A state of isolation or seclusion – well i would have felt like this at this location however I had enough mosquitoes to literally carry me away.

Pretty much cloudless except for a few fluffies wandering past but i still liked the pastel tones coming off the predawn sun.

techie stuff:
D7000 coupled with 17-55mm f2.8 @ Aperture: f/8 and Shutter Speed: 229s
out front – LEE bigstopper, LEE graduated filter 0.9 and screw in circular polariser (just 'cause i would have had to swat 15 billion mosquitoes whilst getting it off 🙂 )

On the Edge

Perched precariously on a small and loose overhang which was sheltered by another larger overhang that seemed to defy the natural forces of gravity, +Rodney Campbell and myself watched the clouds roll in and felt the thunder of the surf vibrating thru the rocks 10's of metres below.

The view is across the Curracurrong Falls which, today was nothing more than a pitiful trickle even after all the rain we have had in Sydney. Further south of this point is Garie Beach, another prime location for photography.

Panorama image with a few dodgy stitching errors 🙂 made from 7 vertical images taken at f8 @ 8seconds shutter using the 17-55 mm f2.8 on D7000

Wombastic

Nestled into a little corner on the South Coast is a sleepy little suburb called Wombarra which has a sneaky little secret – this delightful little rock shelf. Although, it is like walking on a ice rink 😉 Its also delightfully green, my favorite seascape colour 🙂

Nikon D7000, Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, Single frame, Aperture: f/9.5 Shutter Speed: 3s. Composed and shot purely for the tentacles of water receding back into the ocean.

A great location for a soul restoring interaction with nature coupled with a smattering of photography 🙂

A little Light in your Life

So I am sitting here at some ungodly hour of the morning again, typing with one had, rocking a 4 month old with the flu to sleep who every time i make eye contact with simply starts to smile, doesn't she know its time for sleep? 🙂

Anyway, no point wasting time, one hand on the rocker means the other hand can be editing pictures :), hence, I edited up a picture from the other month, a pano image with a difference, this one was actually made up from 5 vertical images stitched together, each image was at 11mm , i never really expected it to work but gave it a run anyway. I also bracketed the images, but only used a single exposure from each. With the sun just ready to peek over the clouds there was enough suppression in the dynamic rangle to get away with just the graduated filter.

Thankyou to you all who comment and plus my posts, I do appreciate it even if I do not reply to every comment 🙂

Skyfall

There are days in life where you feel like you are this small and the world out there is like a massive washing machine waiting to sweep you away.

View large to see the impact on the little 'ol tree standing courageously on the hill in path of some very menacing cloud formations.
Located in some nondescript paddock south of Lake Burrendong. Taken with a now broken 85mm lens at f8 with about 4 or 5 shots stitched together, processed in a way to aacentuate the clouds and desaturated to let the texture and composition speak louder than the colours, which incidentally were actually quite spectacular as well.

I appreciate the comments that people leave and I welcome any suggestions, comments and improvements to my photography, they are always warmly welcomed!

The Neptune Necklace Slide

Subtle, saturated colours, great water flow and wet feet, all make for a fun sunrise session.

Manually blended a couple of shots to achieve that extra bit of light on the rocks and also compensate for the bright sky.

D7000 with 11-16mm f2.8 lens @ Aperture f/19
Shutter Speed: 6s
Circular Polariser and Lee 0.9 Graduated ND filter.

Sky Nodules

It was like the sky from Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne – the scene was encased in this envelope of cloud that reminded me of the sound proofing foam you get with the nodules looking like they would drip away in any second.

D7000 and Tokina 11-16mm (11mm) @ f16 ans 3 seconds with Lee Graduated filter (with sea spray included for free) and circular polariser.

The warm tones on the clouds were very subtle, it was a warm glow rather than a red burn and thus have tried to preserve the subtley and texture in the processing. A single frame taken to accentuate the water flow and capture one of the many sweet looking rocks at low tide whilst on the backdop of a nodular (ohh yeah.. bet ya never used that word before:) ) sky
