In the distance you can see the entrance to Botany Bay, the infamous port upon which Captain Cook (April 1770) sailed on in…
It would have been amazing to see this bay before it was colonised…

Beautiful photo
+Gerard Blacklock, this is gorgeous! I love the contrast of the craggy rocks with the silky water and soft light! And your perspective that leaves three triangles below the horizon. Very nice!! Great long exposure, +Gerard Blacklock . Nice work! Thanks for sharing with the #LandscapePhotography theme!
Very nice composition. Thanks for sharing for #SkySunday
Very nice
why do you say 'infamous' port thats not really accurate its fame is because its the port Cook came in at its hardly infamous at all in fact its the opposite there is no controversy about it or bad connotations its just a port its not infamous at all
넘 좋아 보여요^^
olifantshoek will never change because of the people who live in
+ashley bateson have you studied the first few decades of English colonisation? The worst thing to ever happen to this landmass was Cook arriving.
The comment "infamous" indicates a biased view of history.
I guess if you don't count the suffering endured by the convicts and the beginning of the genocide of the aboriginal peoples as infamous then you would think it is biased. :'(
Yeah, ask a Tasmanian Aboriginal what they think. Oh! That's right, they got hunted to extinction in the 1800's.
Uhh… not many Tasmanian Aborigines in Botany Bay.
It's 'Aborigine', by the way, seeing as we're being all politically correct. 'Aboriginal' is poor grammar, and many find it offensive.
muy bello!
If you really want to get technical, the term aboriginal is used in Australian Law. If people find it offensive it is because of social connotations.
Uhh… That's exactly right, Andrew Murphy. It IS because of social connotations. It is the social connotations of a word that make it socially offensive.
What exactly is your point?
A legal name should not be considered offensive.
Tell that to all those who protested against the erection of the "Nigger Brown Memorial Grandstand" in Toowoomba (and were right to do so).
I don't know anything about that, so cannot comment at this time, however, I will read up on it.
It's a shame that a nice piece of photography has to be overtaken in commentary all because of the authors political/ethnically driven bias.
The point they landed on is not 'infamous' there was no massacre there no murder its just the point they landed it holds no significance apart from that for it to be infamous it would need some history apart from being the place the first white explorers visited (captain cook didnt attack or imprison aboriginals when he docked he simply landed there all the abuse came from others afterwards and none of it was at this port so to call it infamous is incorrect it is not known for some bad act its known as the point they first landed
Just as pilgrims rock in the USA is not infamous
This is the silliest comment thread on a cool photo with many hash tags….
That's all
Fantastic shot !
I love the colour in this shot!!
Very nice.

Infamous? Why?
excellent photo as for the rest, History is History
I agree completely about back in the day, but the sign is lovely 🙂 Thank you for sharing with SignSunday…
WOW!!
This is Just So Beautiful.. I Love This..
Semantics aside folks, this is a great photo. I love the symbolic 'ship's bow' shape of the rocks (makes you want to walk to the end and shout something cheesy like: "I'm king of the world!")
That is so gorgeous..
I like this +Gerard Blacklock – excellent stoppage. Some great sky colour too. Must have been hard dealing with the angled wedge of rocks – you've done excellent getting that level of detail back.
This Gorgeous..Love The Sky And Color..
What's particularly amazing is that this is otherwise one hell of an ugly bay.
you should infamous by heart.
Excellent composition +Gerard Blacklock. Thank you for supporting our theme.
+Rob Elliott that's probably the most sensible comment

it is a ugly bay, that makes it more of a satisfying challenge to take a nice picture of it 🙂

, this was looking away from the sunset so the dynamic range was low, there was plenty of detail in the rocks, the rocks are a bit tricky, prolly why they stick a dangerous sign up there 🙂
Thanks for the comment +Tony Tulloch , appreciated.
Ah – makes sense – this is a case where the reverse grad probably would have come in handy too
